First, read “Reunion” from Alaska Quarterly Review, reprinted in Flash Fiction International (W.W. Norton, 2015). This is a masterful story about how circumstances can change in life, but nothing will change who we are inside.. How making changes in one life often doesn’t make the world feel better. Jack is a guy who hates shopping in department stores, and here he is (again) with his new wife, spotted and snagged by the ex (narrator.) What a great story this is written in the first person and in the voice of a wonderfully unreliable narrator.
