Antarctica by Michelle Elvy in SmokeLong Quarterly and New Micro: Exceptionally Short Fiction(W. W. Norton 2018)

Read Antarctica. This is a brilliant microfiction story about isolation within a relationship. I admire how the author gently addresses a huge, unhappy theme gently and surreally. If Elvy had written about the loss of love in the marriage directly, the story would have not been nearly as impactful. Elvy made wonderful, intuitive use of the idea of fragments, and intuitive logic. Full prompt below for paid subscribers.
