One of the most memorable flash fiction pieces I have ever read is the microfiction story 20/20 by Linda Brewer, published in the early Norton anthology Micro Fiction (W. W. Norton, & Co., 1996) edited by Jerome Stern. The story, written in under 200 words, is a masterpiece of observation and compression.
