6-Sentence Story Workshop: Unusual, Quirky, Interesting Relatives
September 14th-16th (pop-up Facebook workshop offering)
Hello everyone! I have decided to add a pop-up workshop in mid September!
In this 3 day generative microfiction workshop with feedback, participants will be creating 6-sentence stories with the focus on characters with unusual relatives. Unusual relative stories are sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, and most often a potent combination of both. I feel this theme, along with the beloved 6-sentence story constraint, will offer writers plenty of creative material (as well as a fascinating structure) to work with.
The word count limit for this upcoming workshop is 250 words.
Below are some examples of some unusual relative stories. We’ll be working with these stories (and many more) as models in the workshop.
The Winter Swimming of My Grandmother by Frankie McMillan (at New Flash Fiction Review)
Sibling Circus (and Hooked) by Meg Pokrass (at CRAFT)
My classes are small and supportive. Held in a private Facebook group. Cost for the workshop is £130 per student. For paid subscribers to this newsletter, the cost is £120. You can enrol by paying for the course here. The link should allow you to adjust the amount per membership.
About Meg’s workshops:
Writers have been working with Meg Pokrass’ prompts for years and winning stories that have been published in places like The London Independant Story Prize, McSweeney’s, The Best Small Fictions, SmokeLong Quarterly, Pithead Chapel, Ghost Parachute, Vestal Review, and anthologized in The Best Small Fictions and Wigleaf Top 50. Meg’s style is supportive and her comments are insightful. All of her workshops are work-generative with constructive feedback. All levels welcome.
